
What does Crash the Boards involve?
Crash the Boards – a play on words of a popular basketball phrase – is a primary prevention program run in Victorian basketball associations. Taking a whole-of-sport approach, the program targets key change makers such as coaches, players (senior and junior), parents and committee members to address and act on the gendered drivers of violence.
The program consists of 8 phases for each participating basketball association, with ongoing implementation support provided by the program manager and facilitators
Gender Audit
Clubs undertake an audit (participant data, surveys, consultations and interviews) to identify their strengths, priorities and gaps.
Gender Action Plan
2-year plan outlining club goals across key priority areas of participation, policies, partnerships, and practices.
Marketing Campaign
Social media schedule and communications are developed for clubs to share key program messages and achievements.
Coach Workshop
Junior team coaches are upskilled to deliver messaging and run a five minute drill as part of their weekly training session with players.
Junior Player Training Drill
8-week active training program, incorporated into their regular training session.
Active Bystander Training
Training is delivered to Under 18 players who are important peer influencers in and outside the club.

Emotion Coaching Parent Workshop
Parents of junior players are also invited to participate in a workshop aimed at improving understanding and application of emotion coaching with their child/ren to assist with them and their child with emotional regulation.
